The Automotive Information and News Service database provides
international coverage of news, information and the application
of new technologies for the automotive industry.
The Automotive Industry Information and News Service monitors
current events in the automotive industry and produces concise
English language summaries covering key developments and trends
in all areas of vehicle design, production and performance. The
database also features specialised automotive technology
tracking information which covers the application of new
technologies. Coverage is primarily of Western Europe but
increasingly information from the USA and Japan is being
included.
AINS is a valuable source of information for market and product
planning relating to vehicles, engines and their components as
well as for competitor tracking.
The database includes information on the following subjects:
- Vehicle manufacturer news
- Research and development
- New products
- Component news
- Safety
- Manufacturing technology
- Fuels/Lubricants
- Emissions
- Automation
- Government policy
- Plastics industry
- New materials and applications
- New recycling and disposal techniques
- Market share
The AINS database corresponds to the printed publications: World
Automotive News Service, Technology Tracking Service, World
Diesel News, and the PRS Environment, Plastics and Automation
Bulletins.

Abstract
The two main factors that determine the contents of diesel car
exhaust emissions are the fuel itself and the conditions in
which combustion takes place, which in turn depend on design
and operating conditions. The pre-combustion chamber geometry
of the new Mercedez-Benz car diesel engine has been changed in
order to speed up the fuel mixing, which results in more
complete and cleaner combustion and lower emission levels. All
1989 models have these engines which meet the EC limits
planned for the 1990s and current US particulate emmission
limit. HC emission levels have been reduced by 30-40 per cent
and the engines also conform to EEC R 24/03, which specifies
smoke limits under full-load acceleration. The engines produce
similar emission levels to those obtained with the latest
catalytic converters, without having undergone any exhaust
adjustments, and in addition, power output is increased, while
fuel consumption is reduced.
