ANAB - Analytical Abstracts

Content

The premier abstracting service dealing solely with analytical
chemistry in all its aspects.

Analytical Abstracts (ANAB) covers general, inorganic, organic,
biochemical, pharmaceutical, food, agricultural and environmental
aspects of analytical chemistry as well as computer and
instrumental applications in analysis.

Items are selected, arranged and indexed to keep the analytical
chemist, whether laboratory worker or supervisor, in touch with
the important literature in this field.

All references in Analytical Abstracts from 1984 onwards contain
an informative abstract which enables the user to assess
the analytical relevance of the original paper.
All Analytical Abstracts material has been indexed by the
producer to facilitate the retrieval of:

ANALYTE: the chemical substance being separated, determined,
identified or detected.
MATRIX: the medium or type of sample in which the analyte is
present.
CONCEPT: techniques, reagents, apparatus or fields of study;
anything which is not an analyte or a matrix.

Use ANAB to answer such queries as:
- find an assay for lactate dehydrogenase.
- trace recently published papers on the determination of
impurities in high-purity steel.
- retrieve information on determining the presence of diethylene
glycol in wine.

Sources:
The 'core' list of journals regularly scanned includes more than
260 primary journals from countries throughout the world. Items
are also occasionally taken from other journals. Further sources
include books, conference proceedings, technical reports, and
equipment manufacturers' application notes.

Abstract
A specific gas chromatographic (GC) detection method for edible
bird's nest (EBN) based on identifying the composition of the
oligosaccharide chain combined with glycoprotein in EBN is
developed. Five monoses (D-mannose (mannose), D-galactose
galactose (galactose), N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, N-acetyl-D-
glucosamine, and N-acetylneuraminic acid) that constitute
the oligosaccharide chain are detected using GC and GC-mass
spectrometry techniques; their characteristic GC spectrum can
reliably be regarded as the EBN fingerprint. The peak-area
ratios in GC spectrum of those five monoses are found to be
fixed; therefore, the GC technique developed in this work can
conveniently be used to determine various raw EBN and their
products both qualitatively and quantitatively, distinguishing
between fake and genuine EBN rapidly.
