Abstract
By mid 1996, DuPont is to increase its global hydrogen peroxide
capacity by 33 % to 188,000 tonne/y. Capacity at its Gibbons, AB,
facility is to be doubled. At Memphis, TN, capacity will be
raised by 15 %, and at Maitland, ON, new equipment will be
installed. There was a 10 % rise in US demand for hydrogen
peroxide in 1994, and a similar annual increase is forecast to
2000. A 40,000 tonne/y facility is to be built in east Canada by
Degussa, which will also construct a new 30,000 tonne/y plant in
Brazil. Degussa denied that it had any intention of increasing
capacity at its 73,000 tonne/y unit at Mobile, AL. In 1995,
European demand for hydrogen peroxide is expected to rise by 7 %,
following a 7 % increase in 1994. Production has begun at
Kemira's new 45,000 tonne/y facility. Zaklady Azotowe has started
building a 10,000 tonne/y facility in Poland. A 50, 000 tonne/y
unit is to be built in Bernburg, east Germany, by Solvay. It will
replace the company's plant in Munich.
