Ei Compendex combines the two earlier databases COMPENDEX
and ENGINEERING INDEX ENGINEERING MEETINGS.
Sources:
Some 6,500 primary sources are monitored for articles of
technological importance. Articles are drawn from journals,
transactions, reports and special publications of engineering
societies, scientific and technical associations, government
agencies, universities, laboratories, research institutions and
industrial organisations; proceedings of conferences, symposia
and colloguia; monographs; standards; seminars and reports.
Sources are from 58 countries and in 26 languages. 70% of
originals are in English. About 50% of citations are drawn
from non-US publications. Conferences held since 1982 are
indexed in depth. Individual papers as well as conference
review records are included.

Ragweed, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, is an annual plant, the
pollen of which is responsible for respiratory allergies. In
2005, these allergies affected up to 20% of the population in
parts of the department of Rhone. This is a major health
problem for six of eight departments of the Rhone-Alpes
regions (Ain, Ardeche, Drome, Isere, Loire and Rhone). Our
objective was to validate a method to map ragweed infestation
in a village and then to extend this experiment to a
department. Using methods developed by Auda et al. (2002a),
we undertook a survey of ragweed infestation at the end of
July 2005 in the village of Estrablin (Isere). Plots of land

Running Alerts in Compendex:
Elsevier supplies three types of update documents:
- New (delivered weekly)
- Replacements (delivered erratically, though theoretically
these could be delivered on a weekly basis)
- Deletions (again, erratically though they too could be
delivered weekly)
Alerts are only run on new documents.
Alerts are run the day after the update is received.
Replacements can be identified in Compendex by the letter 'R'
in the accession number paragraph. It is possible to find these
by adding the search 'RT=R' to your strategy.
DT - Publication date
Not all documents have a specific publication date, but this
paragraph is populated in the format YYYYMMDD. For those
documents taken from weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly,
annual, etc. publications, the month and date figures may be
zero-filled. For example, a 'July 2008' publication date will
show as '20080700', a '2008' publication date will show as
'20080000'.
..RANK and ..MAP: available in AU, SO, MJ and YR paragraphs.
You may find some discrepancy between the number of documents
that is listed in the RANK table and the number of documents
retrieved if the term is selected for searching. This is because
the number listed in the RANK table excludes those documents
that have been flagged for deletion, whereas the number searched
does not.
