Dun & Bradstreet's collection of Western European company
directories is presented in 14 separate databases, each in identical
format.
Dun & Bradstreet is the world's leading supplier of business
information. The information contained in these 14 databases
includes company name, address, telephone and fax numbers, 1987 US
SIC and local classification codes for line of business.
Additionally, the following information may be available: number of
employees, year of foundation, sales, profit and net worth figures
in local currency and US dollars, senior management names, and
corporate ownership. Each of the 14 databases is presented in
exactly the same format so you can search them easily.
DBZZ includes records of actively trading companies which have been
updated by Dun & Bradstreet's business analysts. Companies are
included from all industry and service sectors; but only those for
which a full address and description of activities is available are
loaded into the database. DBZZ represents an excellent marketing
tool.
Companies need to reach a 'marketability' threshold to be covered in
the database. Individual countries may, additionally, have their own
criteria for inclusion. Generally speakin, g however, a company
should at least conform to the following basic criteria:
- must be an active company (not 'out of business')
- must have a business name
- must have a valid address (physical OR mailing)
- must have a valid SIC ocde (not '0000' or '9999')
- must not have delist status
For the specific criteria for inclusion for a particular country
you should refer to Dun & Bradstreet direct.
Use DBZZ to:
- conduct business-to-business direct marketing
- identify key prospects and produce industry sector profiles
- rationalise sales territories
- identify pharmaceutical manufacturers in Spain and Italy
- create a list of companies based in Bavaria with sales in
excess of DM 100m and more than 200 employees in total.
Sources:
Dun & Bradstreet's 2,000 business analysts throughout Europe gather
first-hand information on the companies every day. The data is
collected by telephone interviews and questionnaire from the
director or company secretary (or equivalent level of authority). A
constant revision programme ensures that all companies are checked
on a regular basis. Information filed at each countries' companies
registration offices is also used.

When using limit options you should first exclude those documents
for which no data is available by using the =NA feature (see example
3/4 above).
When using the Profit (PR, USPR) and Net Worth (NW, USNW) limit
options you can also restrict retrieval to those companies with
positive or negative figures by using the =NEGATIVE feature (see
examples 7/8 and 11/12 above).
All financials figures are given as whole numbers.

AN - Duns number & update
Full reports on larger companies may also appear in the DEFR (Duns
European Financial Records) database. If so, a message is given in
the AN paragraph of the DBZZ database to alert you. You should,
however, be aware that this message is generated when the document
is added to DBZZ. If, after that date, the full report is deleted
from DEFR, then this message will not be corrected unti the next
time DBZZ itself is updated. Treat this message as a guide rather
than as a definitive rule.
AD - Language of address information
Street (ST), town/city location (LO) and state/province (SC)
information are given in the local language. The country (CN) is
always given in English.
CN - Country:
Always use the quick code (e.g. CN=FRANCE) when searching by
country. The large number of companies covered in DBZZ makes
retrieval by standard-searching slow.
MA - Mailing address
Use the MA paragraph for displaying the mailing addresses of
companies. For those companies where this is identical to its
physical address, the physical address is repeated here.

FURNISHED HEREUNDER, REGARDLESS OF THE CAUSE OF THE LOSS OR
INJURY (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE) AND REGARDLESS OF THE EQUITABLE
RIGHT CLAIMED TO HAVE BEEN VIOLATED, SHALL NEVER EXCEED THE
AMOUNT PAID BY YOU FOR THE SERVICES FURNISHED HEREUNDER DURING
THE PREVIOUS TWELVE MONTH PERIOD OR US$ 5,000.- EQUIVALENT,
WHICHEVER IS GREATER, AND YOU COVENANT AND PROMISE THAT YOU WILL
NOT SUE D&B AND/OR DATASTAR FOR AN AMOUNT GREATER THAN SUCH SUM
AND THAT YOU WILL NOT SEEK PUNITIVE DAMAGES IN ANY SUIT AGAINST
