DataStar Datasheets:

DKFL - Automotive Engineering (DKF)

Content

Access to the worldwide literature on all aspects of motor vehicle
design, construction and manufacturing.

DKFL provides access to abstracted literature (in German) on road
and cross-country vehicles for civilian and military use. Subjects
covered include information relating to:

. internal combustion engines (fuel mixture, combustion processes,
exhaust gases);
. vehicle components (electric and electronic equipment);
. vehicle operations (safety, driving behaviour, maintenance,
testing, environmental aspects);
. materials engineering (materials, fuels, corrosion, tribology);
. design engineering (vehicle design and manufacture);
. standardisation and legislation.

The database will be of particular interest to those involved in all
areas of automotive engineering - including design, construction,
R&D, quality control - and related support services.

Use DKFL to answer questions like:
- what ceramic materials are used in the manufacture of engines?
- what moves have been made to harmonise vehicle safety standards
in EU countries?
- what future developments can be expected in the area of vehicle
emission reduction?
- what research has been carried out to reduce disk-brake squeal?

Sources:
The database corresponds to the hardcopy DKF-Literaturinformations-
dienst (12 issues per year). Abstracts are taken from some 350,
mainly German (46%) journals; material from American (20%), British
(8%), French (6%), Swiss (6%), Japanese (5%), Italian (1%) and other
nationality (8%) journals is also covered. A large part (more than
50%) of the database is made up of 'grey literature' - reports,
technical papers and academic theses from around the world.

Abstract
Creating a low-stress in-vehicle climate for greater road
safety.

Abstract

Notes on DKFL

TI - Title:
Titles are always given in the original language with an English
translation at the start of the AB paragraph. Where the original
title is in English, a German translation is given in AB.

DE/MJ/MN - Descriptors:
Descriptors appearing in the MJ paragraph are controlled and are
taken from the DKF Thesaurus (available from the producer); those in
MN are uncontrolled keywords that are designed to complement the
terms in MJ. When searching in MJ or MN always use paragraph
qualification to avoid mis-hits, e.g.:

1_: GAS-OTTOMOTOR.MJ.

or:

2_: CAR-SHARING.MN.

Qualifying to DE will retrieve items that appear in either MJ or MN.

AV - Availability:
Over 99% of abstracts are available as original reprints from the
producer. The accession number (AN) of the document should be quoted
when ordering reprints.

Database size:
Type DOCZ at any time to retrieve the total number of documents
currently in the database.

Guides:
The guide to DKFL is published in the DataStar Business Manual,
Berne and online in the BASE database - search BASE-DKFL.
