RAPR - RAPRA: Polymer Library

Content

The RAPRA Database is a unique source of information on technical,
academic, commercial and marketing aspects of the rubber and
plastics industries.

RAPR contains the largest and most comprehensive collection of
information on rubbers, plastics, adhesives and polymeric composites
in the world.

Subjects covered include:
. industrial hazards & toxicology
. company & commercial information
. applications of polymers
. environmental effects
. processing technology
. markets & industry statistics
. polymer synthesis
. chemical modification
. properties & testing
. machinery & test equipment
. intermediate & semi-finished products
. additives & compounding ingredients
. patent applications & publications (up to the end of 2001 only)
. trade names & product announcements
. company names & addresses
. raw materials & monomers
. legislation

The RAPRA database will be of interest to researchers and chemists
involved specifically in the rubber and plastics industries, as well
as in other related sectors. Academic institutions, consultancies
and all business-research organisations will also find RAPR an
invaluable resource in this area.

Use RAPR to answer questions like:
- in which business activities have Shell been involved during the
last two years?
- what are the standards applicable to aircraft tyres in the UK?
- what are the applications for PVC in the textile/clothing
industries?
- what information is available on car bumpers in Japan?

Sources:
Around 500 periodicals from all over the world relating to all
aspects of rubber and plastics are scanned from cover to cover and
relevant items are selected for inclusion in the RAPRA database.
These are supplemented by as full coverage as possible of conference
papers, specifications, books, trade literature and technical and
Government reports.

Patent applications from US, EPO and PCT (WO) are covered from
January 1994 to Decmber 2001.

RAPRA is the equivalent of three abstract journals, Rapra Abstracts,
Adhesives Abstracts and Rapra Polymer Patents Abstracts.

Abstract
Polytetrahydrofuran, which is liquid at room temp., or
polytetrahydrofuran monoesters of C1 to C20 monocarboxylic acids
or polytetrahydrofuran monoethers of monohydric C1 to C20
alcohols with a mean molec.wt. of 250 to 10,000 Daltons are
prepared by cationic polymerisation of THF in the presence of a
telogen. Tetrahydrofuran is polymerised in the presence of water,
1,4-butanediol and/or polytetrahydrofuran with a mean molec.wt.
of 200 to 700 Daltons and/or a C1 to C20 monocarboxylic acid and
/or a monohydric C1 to C20 alcohol using a catalytically active
amount of a zeolite catalyst with an SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio of
4:1 to 100:1, the population ratio of the acid sites on the outer
surface of the zeolite to the total number of acid sites in the
zeolite being 0.03:1 or greater.
