DataStar Datasheets:

RTEC - Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances (RTECS)

Content

RTECS provides data on the acute and chronic toxic effects of
chemical substances.

The RTEC database covers over 100,000 chemicals both naturally
occurring and man-made, including food additives, dyes, detergents,
prescription and non-prescription drugs, fungicides, herbicides,
pesticides, solvents, diluents, chemical wastes and other industrial
chemicals. Chemical substances can be identified using CAS registry
number, any known chemical name, molecular formulae as well as toxic
effects. Information on muatgenicity, carcinogenicity, skin and eye
irritation, reproductive studies, and other toxic effect tests can
be located in RTEC.

In each document, paragraphs T1 to T5 contain the toxic effects
data. Every study included will give details on species, route,
dose and other important information. Selected US Federal Standards
and Regulations and NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational
Safety & Health) recommended exposure levels can be found in text
paragraphs T6 and T7. Toxicology and carcinogenicity reviews are
also cited in paragraph T7.

All those with working with chemicals in research, industry and
government bodies will find a use for RTEC as will those involved
with health and safety aspects of the chemical and waste products
industry.

Use RTEC to answer questions like:
- what, if any, are the carcinogenic effects of sweet gum?
- what are all the known toxic effects of aniline?
- have any eye-irritation studies been written for Sorbyl alcohol?
- what mutagenicity studies have been written for potassium
chloride?

Sources:
RTEC is derived from published scientific literature, articles,
monographs, and from published and unpublished Government reports.
